Inspiration

Due to the health risks associated with being in close proximity to others during the COVID-19 pandemic, humans have no choice but to be physically isolated from loved ones and have learned to rely on virtual modes of communication to maintain communicate with others. We have quickly learned the importance of consistent social interactions to improve our mental health and well-being, as well as the negative impacts of the pandemic on our mental health. Thus, we have created Catch-Up to remind us to frequently check in with our loved ones and make sure we maintain consistent contact with others in the midst of a pandemic.

What it does

Catch-Up is a social wellness app that allows you to add people you would like to keep up with and the frequency at which you want to interact with this person. You will then receive a notification to remind you to send a text or chat with a person after a certain amount of time, based on the time frequency you set.

How we built it

We built Catch-Up using Swift and SwiftUI.

Challenges we ran into

Learning SwiftUI and creating an app under 36 hours proved to be the biggest challenge. Most of the functionality we have brainstormed for this app were not able to be implemented due to time constraints and learning the language syntax and nuisances for the first time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Learning Swift and SwiftUI for the first time, and learning how to use Apple's frameworks!

What we learned

How to work efficiently as a team virtually, as well as how to design and code an app!

What's next for Catch-Up

We hope to integrate more functionality into Catch-Up, which include tracking social goals, asking the user how their day was, and making custom contact groups to make it into a better wellness app that people can use daily to maintain good "social health".
