Inspiration

After I heard that many baby sea turtles were getting stuck in plastic masks, I felt bad and decided that I would make an app to help the loss of biodiversity in our oceans

What it does

Our website is called Catch The Sea and the goal of our website is to help fisherman with by-catching with our device called the PPSD (Plastic Pollution Satellite Detector) which is the main element of our project. Our device will go into the water and send in sound waves into the oceans playing the sounds of major marine predators such as orcas to scare animals such as dolphins out of the fishing area. As well as playing the sounds  of those animals our device will send signals. Our device  will also have a camera trap connected to it to capture the animals that are living in that area of water and this way fisherman will know what sounds to play to scare off animals in the region so they don't get stuck in the net. We also have a satellite in space that will orbit space and send coordinates and maps of bodies of water that have plastic junk deep in the water. This way marine biologists can know where the plastic pollution is and help clean it up a gradually.

How we built it

We made detailed blueprints of our device and how it would work and it's unique features and design

Challenges we ran into

Designing the device so that it is water-proof and so that it is able to locate piles of plastic items deep in different bodies of water around the world using our satellite

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to make our device not only find plastic in deep parts of oceans and help scare away animals out of areas with fishing nets by playing the sounds of their predators.

What we learned

What's next for Catch the sea
