Inspiration

Redditors have perfected the art of arguing about pineapple on pizza, debating “Which came first: the chicken or the egg?”, and losing sleep over cat memes. But why stop at karma? We asked: What if Reddit’s competitive spirit could earn you crypto… and bragging rights forever? Inspired by r/WSB’s diamond hands and r/gaming’s rage-quit culture, we built a platform where skill beats luck, and victory means cold, hard Satoshi.

What It Does

Casual eSports Club turns Reddit into a play-to-earn battleground using Interactive Posts and Bitcoin’s Lightning Network. Here’s the breakdown:

  1. Tournament Creation:

    • Users (18+) create tournaments via an Interactive Post, setting entry fees (in Satoshi), game type, start time, and player cap.
    • Example: “10-player Flappy Bird tournament, 500 Satoshi entry. Winner takes 4,000 Satoshi!”
  2. Practice Mode vs. Tournament Mode:

    • Practice Mode: Unlimited tries, zero stakes. Perfect for mastering “How to Not Crash Your Reddit-themed Rocket Car.”
    • Tournament Mode: One shot. Leaderboards update in real time via Interactive Posts.
  3. Crypto Integration (18+ Only):

    • Age Gate: Users must verify age via KYC (government ID) to deposit Satoshi.
    • Escrow System: Entry fees are locked in a Lightning Network escrow wallet until the tournament ends.
    • Auto-Refunds: If a tournament fails to fill, Satoshi is returned instantly.
  4. Compliance Measures:

    • Under-18 Restrictions: Practice Mode is open to all, but Tournament Mode requires verified age.
    • Wallet Monitoring: Flag suspicious activity (e.g., 12-year-old crypto whales).
  5. Payouts:

    • Winners get 80% of the prize pool; 20% goes to the platform (to fund our caffeine addiction).
    • Withdraw Satoshi to any Lightning Wallet or HODL in your Reddit profile.

How We Built It

  • Devvit: Embedded tournament sign-ups, leaderboards, and chat directly into Interactive Posts.
  • Interactive Posts: Hosted live games (e.g., trivia, mini-games) using WebView, with real-time score updates.
  • Blocks: Designed a clean UI for game lobbies, wallet balances, and tournament history.
  • Aurpay: Integrated Bitcoin Lightning payments for deposits/withdrawals (with user consent and KYC).

Challenges We Ran Into

  • Crypto Compliance: Balancing decentralization with Reddit’s policies felt like herding cats. We added KYC checks to avoid becoming the SEC’s new favorite example.
  • Aurpay Integration: Debugging Lightning Network microtransactions made us question life choices.

Accomplishments We’re Proud Of

  • MVP Ready: Launched a beta tournament on r/casualesportsclub
  • Live Leaderboards: Interactive Posts updated scores faster than r/antiwork mods lock threads.

What We Learned

  • Reddit’s Platform: Interactive Posts are gold for community engagement (and chaos).
  • Crypto Realities: Satoshi transactions are fast, but legal paperwork is slower than dial-up.

What’s Next

  1. Legal Hurdles: Partner with compliance experts to navigate crypto regulations.
  2. Marketing: Recruit r/CryptoCurrency and r/gaming mods to host tournaments.
  3. Partnerships: Collaborate with Lightning Network wallets (e.g., Strike) for seamless payouts.
  4. Reddit Coins Backup Plan: If crypto gets spicy, we’ll pivot to Reddit’s award system.

TL;DR: We turned Reddit into a Satoshi-fueled arcade. Play games, crush rivals, and flex your crypto trophies. Legal disclaimer: No Redditors were harmed testing this app (except their pride).
