The Story Behind Cast Your Vote
It didn’t begin with a grand epiphany. It started quietly — with a slow realization that crept in after hundreds of tiny, invisible decisions.
"Should I study now, or watch an episode of Succession?" "Should I go for that workout, or just do it tomorrow?"
Each time, the stakes felt low. The consequences, negligible. But the pattern was unmistakable: The small choices I made — especially when no one was watching — were quietly shaping the kind of person I was becoming.
Some days, I felt aligned. Like I was voting for a version of myself that was focused, disciplined, and intentional. Other days, I felt like I was drifting, stuck on autopilot — casting quiet votes for distraction, delay, and convenience.
And here’s the trap: we tell ourselves we’ll act tomorrow. Then the next day. Then the day after that. Until one day, 20 years later, we wonder where it all went wrong. But there was no singular moment. No dramatic turning point. Just one vote at a time. Every day.
That’s when I came across a line from Atomic Habits by James Clear: "Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become."
That hit hard. I didn’t need another planner or a complicated system. I needed a simple, daily mirror — something lightweight, fast, and honest.
That’s how Cast Your Vote was born. It’s a minimalist reflection app that helps you notice your choices and the patterns they form. With each tap — Greatest or Laziest — you cast a vote. Not for the day, but for yourself.
This project came from both frustration and hope. The frustration of drifting. The hope that with a moment of awareness, I could steer back.
Because in the end, it’s simple: One tap. One vote. Who are you becoming? And if you don’t like the answer — Vote differently.
