Inspiration
The inspiration for this project came from our everyday struggles with cash. Due to the lack of PF (personal finance) resources in schools, most teens (including us) struggle with keeping their finances in check or they want to build up their wallets for some unforeseen expenses.
What it does
The CashTrack app provides features like user-defined budget planning, a shared expense split calculator, personal finance and investing courses, an investment tracker & DCA (Dollar Cost Averaging) bot, and an AI-powered wallet health analysis. These tools aim to simplify financial management and educate users on long-term wealth-building strategies. What differentiates us from our competitors is our modern look and focus on youth users - we offer an incentive in the form of points for sticking to your budget plan. You can exchange the points for rewards. Also, we plan to make the courses as engaging as possible, so they are a great fit for a youth audience. Note: Currently, many features are non-functional, as this submission serves as a theoretical and visual proof-of-concept.
How we built it
First things first, we started with creating a design in Figma. Then we tweaked that design on the go and ended up with something we are all proud of. We used the default WEB stack - HTML, CSS, JS, and React libraries. As this is meant as a proof-of-concept, much of the functionality isn't there, however, we would like to keep learning and develop something usable.
Challenges we ran into
We encountered several formatting and design challenges, as the website initially didn't correlate to the design we created. At first, we tried resolving these issues with AI, but when needed, we reached out to mentors for guidance, who provided fantastic support. Working through these challenges taught us how to troubleshoot design-to-code issues and think on our feet.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are incredibly proud of building an entire website in just three days, especially with only basic experience in web development. This project pushed us out of our comfort zones, and now we have something concrete to showcase. We are also grateful for the mentorship and support that allowed us to grow as a team and learn from each other.
What we learned
This project was a crash course in web development, AI integration, Open Banking concepts, prompt engineering, and even React.JS, all while working under intense time pressure. We also gained valuable insights into project management, teamwork, and making quick, effective decisions.
What's next for CashTrack - A Personal Finance Tool For Youth
Ultimately, we would like to keep working on this project, as we think it is realistic and has potential. Especially, if we do get the chance to partake in the Erasmus project, where we think that we could get this project off the ground.
