Inspiration

We got inspired to do this project and overall hackathon because we wanted to see how far we can go for being relatively new to hackathons. We wanted to push ourselves to try to win one of the prizes at the hackathon this year and see if we really have the skills to back up that fighting drive. In the end, even if we don't win, the experience of this hackathon leaves us with more inspiration to do better at the next hackathon.

What it does

CashCourse is a financial learning app where we try to make the learning fun through gamifying it. Our application is aimed for anyone who wants to learn finance in a fun way. You will learn key concepts such as balance sheets, EBITDA, and horizontal analysis through our application.

How we built it

We built out project mainly using TypeScript along with node.js. Along the way we incorporated Neon.Tech database and Clerk authentication to make the website more functional for users.

Challenges we ran into

The brainstorming at the beginning was challenging due to the many options we had to choose from. It was difficult to come to a decision about an idea we wanted to pursue but ultimately, I think we made a good choice.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're extremely proud of the database and authentication setup that we were able to do. Along with that, the custom icons made for the application were also very cool to make. Overall, the entire product is something that we poured a lot of time into, so we are very happy with the progress we made.

What we learned

We learned a lot about TypeScript since it took up a large portion of the program. It was also great to learn more about databases and authentication. Learning to make and use custom icons was also awesome. Overall, working on the project taught us a lot about time management and collaboration style of work.

What's next for CashCourse

Hopefully, we can continue to keep working on it and make it reach full functionality by implementing the lessons and other features we wanted to implement.
