Inspiration

Our idea for CASESCAPE comes from our experience as computer science students at the University of Washington. Our classes are usually information-heavy with little wiggle room to explore different perspectives and approaches to problems; as students, we are mostly taking notes, and we often have few opportunities to practice our technical abilities and exercise our soft skills in a real-world setting. We came up with the idea to integrate case studies and simulations in CS courses, like business case studies, in order to: 1) encourage students to be engaged in the lessons, 2) collaborate with other CS studies in real-life scenarios, and 3) push students to learn outside the classroom.

What it does

With CASESCAPE, professors and TAs can run simulations and case studies with their students as in-class activities, homework, and projects. This allows students to work in teams in a collaborative setting where they get to be proactive and make their own decisions, and they can assess how their actions impact a company or project. Students get to use their knowledge and apply it to real-world problems, giving them a holistic understanding of the concept they learn in class.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We initially didn't have a technological product for our vision for reforming education, but we brainstormed multiple ideas and pivoted from multiple concepts. The SWE 2023 Hackathon is our first hackathon experience, and this was both of our first times using Figma. Despite these setbacks, we were able to translate our vision into reality.

What's next for CASESCAPE?

In addition to case studies and simulations, we would like to integrate video and interviews to broaden the scope of what our platform could do. Examples could be technical interview preparation and possibly a partnership with LeetCode.
