Inspiration
I learned to cook by helping my mother with small tasks, one step at a time, until I could prepare entire meals myself. What made the experience special was always seeing the final meal come together. I wanted to bring that same feeling to coding: with Carve-Out, you learn by implementing one function at a time, while still seeing the whole application come to life.
What it does
Carve-Out helps you understand existing software by rebuilding it, one function at a time. Choose a project, implement a function from scratch, and pass its tests while an AI tutor provides hints, relevant code context, and the tools you need. With every function you complete, more of the application runs on code you've written yourself, while preserving the original software's behavior.
How we built it
Carv-Out was built with
- Python 3.14
- Javascript -FastAPI
- CSS
- HTML
Challenges we ran into
Using Online Compiler, interpreters for different languages. Front end design is not a skill I have, I had to be very cretive before getting a satisfying final design for Carve-Out.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I built Carve-Out to solve a problem I experienced myself: understanding how existing software works without becoming too dependent on coding agents. I hope it helps others learn by building, gain confidence in their coding skills, and become more independent developers.
What we learned
Building with the idea that other people we might use my work. So every details count
What's next for Carve-out
The possibilty for the User to build a project from his idea directly on the App.
