Inspiration
We wanted to create an easy and efficient way to enter your car by using TouchID on your phone. We've noticed that our parents would misplace their keys and they're left wasting their time searching for the lost keys. Instead, a simple app on your phone could replace all those lost keys with a more efficient driving experience.
What it does
The app called CarTouch has different functionalities built in the app. The main function is to unlock your car through TouchID. Your own fingerprint is the key to your car, this enables a safer driving experience. Since a fingerprint is so unique, it is difficult to steal; hence, it's a safer option compared to car keys. If you're unable to locate your car, the app tracks your car so you know exactly where it is, as well as providing directions to that location. (This feature is not fully functional on the app as we do not have a real car, but the idea of the function is still there!) If you're in an emergency and need to call the police, the app has a button to call 911. Two specific purposes for this functionality was if your car was stolen or if you're in a car accident. The location of your car and your license plate would be sent to the police for them to track it down for you. Hopefully, the TouchID feature, which would insure privacy in the first place, should rule out the possibility of stolen cars and create a safer travel experience. Another feature we offer is a timer. If someone's borrowing your car, you can place a timer for how long you will allow them to borrow your car. If you go over the time limit, the car will drive itself back to the owners house. This is not a fully established idea and would be offered for cars specifically like Teslas. This is because most auto-driving cars are not fully developed; yet, but when they do, this feature will be part of the update.
How we built it
We used xCode and searched up tutorials to write the code as this was our first time writing in Swift. For the website to showcase our idea, we used Wix to create the CarTouch website.
Challenges we ran into as first timers
We had some trouble building our code because it was our first time, but we weren't afraid to ask for help make our code better.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully created an app for the first time using a language we were just testing out. We also created an amazing website to showcase our creative idea. We believe this was a very successful first hackathon! We are ready to come to more!
What we learned
I learned about Swift through the workshops as well as searching up videos on youtube.
What's next for CarTouch
We want to make the app fully functional and pair it with an actual car and hopefully make our dream a big success! Hopefully with more experience, this can come true!
