Inspiration
Currently the process for using minute-based car rental, also know as car-sharing, can be cumbersome. With CARsten we wanted to streamline and simplify every aspect of the rental process.
What it does
CARsten is your personal assistant for the entire car-sharing experience and focuses on key pain points such as finding a vehicle in the real world or quickly checking if the car has any reported damages and making sure there aren't any undocumented ones.
How I built it
To make use of cutting-edge augmented reality technologies, we chose to build a native iOS app. CARsten is based on ARKit, CoreLocation and SceneKit for the navigation and damage reporting features. The app is entirely written in Swift.
Challenges I ran into
The main challenge was to align our augmented reality with the real world. Both key features use a combination of techniques to display real navigation directions from MapKit and to highlight already reported damages on the vehicle.
