Inspiration
Carrom is one of our favorite games, so wanted to make the game more accessible to all so everyone can try it out!
What it does
A miniature (to scale) Carrom board that allows players to stimulate playing the game when a full sized board is inaccessible.
How we built it
We used measuring tools and wood stains to measure and color our pieces. We then used the wood laser cutter to engrave and cut out the pieces of the game.
Challenges we ran into
None of us had ever used the laser cutter here before, so there was a learning curve to using Adobe Illustrator and the HIVE equipment.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of finishing what we set out to do, and we're proud of the skills we learned along the way! We all want to go back to the HIVE and learn more about all the tools there.
What we learned
We learned a lot about the design process and all the careful work that goes into designing a hardware product. From measuring to illustrating to coloring to cutting, we felt we improved our woodworking and design skills.
What's next for Carrom at Scale
A scalable solution that allows for more boards to be made with more ease would be a logical next step (standard set of files to make the pieces and engravings).
