CareerConnect is a project that I independently designed and developed from scratch to address the difficulties students face in finding the right career path, mentorship, and real opportunities during placements. I started the project by researching real student problems, collecting pain points, and defining the essential features needed to bridge the gap between students and mentors. I then designed the complete UI/UX using Figma, focusing on a clean, simple, and user-friendly interface. After finalizing the design, I built the frontend using React.js and Tailwind CSS, ensuring responsiveness and smooth navigation. Next, I developed the backend using Node.js and Express.js, handling APIs, routing, and application logic. I used MongoDB to architect the database, structuring collections for users, mentors, sessions, and skills. I also implemented JWT-based authentication for secure login and role-based access. To make mentorship meaningful, I built a matching algorithm that connects students to mentors based on skills, interests, and goals. Throughout the development, I faced challenges such as database structuring for multiple user types, deployment issues, backend bugs, and time management with academics, but I solved each issue through continuous debugging, research, and testing. Building CareerConnect taught me full-stack development concepts, UI/UX design, backend integration, problem-solving, and real-world product development. My goal now is to expand CareerConnect into a full-stack mobile application, integrate AI-based guidance and a wellness chatbot, add resume analysis, skill assessments, and job API integrations, and provide real-time mentorship features and community discussions to support students at every stage of their career journey.
