‘Carousel’ is a visual poem, a fever dream, a love story told through fragments and memories. Basically—an impossible project, if not for AI, which allows for underwater scenes and dozens of locations for a fraction of the cost of traditional VFX. What I loved about using AI in this story was that it encouraged experimentation, taking risks that would be very unwise in traditional film production, like using a fish eye lens for a whole sequence. ‘Carousel’ is a very personal story about an intense relationship that flourished and withered, leaving profound wounds. It’s funny that some say that AI is soulless. In this case, it became a vessel for my emotional catharsis.
Carousel is a hybrid video project. It features "traditional" voice acting, music, graphic design and post work, but its visuals are 100% AI generated. Workflow was image prompting in Midjourney and Kling 2.0 for clip generation (+ Runway for a few shots), before upscaling via Topaz.
The film has been selected in 10+ film festivals all around the world, including Amsterdam, Venice, Tokyo and Sao Paulo.
