Turning a piece of technology from being a dangerous distraction into a tool that could potentially save lives.
What it does
The CarmaDriven app acts as your co-pilot to alert you of hidden hazards that are easily missed by the average driver.
How we built it
We used Microsoft's custom vision AI to detect road hazards and Liberty Mutual's shine API to notify drivers of areas that are known to be prone to accidents.
Challenges we ran into
Had trouble figuring the inputs and outputs fo the custom vision AI. Ionic can be difficult to work with when setup improperly.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Developed a proof-of-concept for an application that could impact the way we drive and bring attention to our surroundings. Work with technologies we have not worked with before and was still able to develop a functional app within 24 hours.
What we learned
How to work with new people in a new environment with a strict deadline. Learned to use new technologies that we have not worked with before (custom vision AI, Shine, Ionic).
What's next for CarmaDriven
Further enhance the UI to make it more user-friendly. Figure out ways that this app could potentially be used for people with disabilities. Increase the functionality of our real-time information gathering.
