Inspiration

Spending time at the barracas along Rio's coastline has always been a highlight for me. But I noticed a gap: most barracas don’t have any digital presence. There’s no central place to find which ones are open, what they offer, or even where they're located. Many still rely on pen and paper for tracking sales and operations. This inspired me to build a modern, digital platform that brings more visibility and transparency to the beachside experience.

What it does

Version 1 is a mobile-first web app that showcases barracas along Rio's beaches. It includes real-time weather data, an intuitive search function, and basic details for each barraca. The goal is to make it easy for locals and tourists to find and support their favorite spots, rain or shine.

How I built it

The project was primarily built using bolt.new, which helped accelerate development. For more complex tasks, I used Cursor to leverage the flexibility of a full IDE. The backend uses Supabase for database and authentication needs, and the site is deployed on Netlify for ease of hosting and CI/CD integration. Translation support has already been added to accommodate a multilingual audience.

Challenges I ran into

The biggest hurdle was learning and adapting to several new tools in a short amount of time. I only discovered this hackathon two days before the deadline, so there was a lot of rapid learning and prototyping. Also, managing real-time data updates and weather APIs presented some integration challenges.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Submitting this project is a huge win for me. I often start personal projects like this and abandon them midway, but this time I followed through and delivered a working prototype. I'm also proud of creating something that could directly benefit local businesses and communities.

What's next for Carioca Coastal Club

The next major milestones include: Push Notifications: Letting users know when their favorite barracas are open or have special offers. Ordering System: Allowing users to order food and drinks directly from their phone.

I'm also planning to add multi-language support, a loyalty program, and deeper integrations with local vendors. The vision is to turn Carioca Coastal Club into the go-to platform for beachgoers in Rio.
