Inspiration

Our team has extensive experience working with seniors experiencing dementia. We understand that the condition can be challenging for both the patients and the caregivers, but by recognizing the impact they make and the importance of their work, caregivers can build better relationships with their patients.

What it does

CaringBuddies is an app designed to support caregivers working with seniors with dementia at Deaconess. The app provides a platform for mentorship, emotional support, and communication between caregivers, residents, and their families. Caregivers can communicate with their mentors for seeking experiences and support. They also access a resident's personalized profile, which includes their habits, preferences, and photos, with the consent of their family. Additionally, families can interact with caregivers and share updates through the app. Caregivers can also track their progress and achievements and create their own profiles. The goal is to enhance the caregiver experience and create a more positive and inclusive work environment for caregivers.

How we built it

APP: a mix of HTML, CSS, JavaScript to develop an UX design platform Presentation: Canva, Quicktime Player, CapCut

Challenges we ran into

We adjusted our focus multiple times, beginning with understanding Alzheimer's patients and eventually realizing that the key to the solution is educating and supporting caregivers.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We believe that CaringBuddies empowers caregivers with emotional support, resulting in a prolonged stay at Deaconess with increased experience, boosting their experience and improving the care they provide to residents, ultimately creating a better community.

What we learned

We learned that helping and supporting caregivers is an important aspect of addressing the challenges faced by Alzheimer's patients. By focusing on the needs of the caregivers, you were able to provide them with tools, resources, and support that improved their experience and ultimately made a positive impact on the lives of Alzheimer's patients.

What's next for CaringBuddies

CaringBuddies has the potential to make a positive impact on a larger scale as many residential care workers are owed millions in unpaid wages and damages. The app's focus on providing emotional support and resources to caregivers can help address these issues and improve the lives of care workers beyond the Waltham community.
