Inspiration
Money moves the world, and as college students, it is very easy to spend without thought. But, it can be scary to begin making smarter financial decisions. For this reason, we wanted to make a website that consolidated all the user's important bank information, while giving them their own personal AI assistant to help them start making better financial choices! While it feels great to spend money, it feels even greater when you realize you smartly handling it.
What it does
The website tracks the bank account you have made with CarianAdvisors, showing your transaction history (which includes purchases, withdrawals, and deposits). Additionally, we provide a pie chart that help visualize spending habits. Last, but certainly not least, the AI assistant, Cappy! His main goals are to make financial jargon easier to digest, making it less scary for users to take those beginning steps into a smarter financial lifestyle.
How we built it
We would first like to thank the sponsors for providing the resources that helped this project grow. With CapitalOne's Nessie API, we were able to gain access to and manipulate the bank information of our users. Additionally, using OpenRouter's API, we were able to obtain an AI Agent for us to train and integrate into our website. For the website itself, we used HTML, Javascript, CSS, and React to handle the Front-End, while Flask helped us visualize it. Python was used for the back-end procedures, like account creation and getting specific information from the API.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest hurdles we faced were dealing with git commands and merging. While we have worked with git in the past, our skills using it still need some improvements. From merge conflicts to the main branch being up to date, but not actually having one of the people's changes pushed, this experience pushed us to learn git more than ever before.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully integrating an API, training an AI chatbot, and creating a site. Most of all, we are proud of completing our first hackathon.
What we learned
We learned how to work with AI chatbots, API's, while further honing our git and project developing skills.
What's next for Carian Hackers
We eventually want to add the capability for one user to have multiple account types. This would further elevate our goal to make dealing with personal finances much easier and digestible.
