Inspiration## 🚚 Inspiration

Modern logistics depends on making decisions based on information from the real world. A logistics company may need to know whether a route is passable, whether a shipment has reached a location, whether a facility is operational, or whether a reported disruption is genuine.

The problem is that this information can be outdated, fragmented, expensive to obtain, or difficult to verify.

As AI agents become capable of making autonomous decisions, we realized that giving an agent more intelligence is not enough. An autonomous agent also needs a way to determine whether the information it acts upon can actually be trusted.

This inspired us to build CargoProof — a platform that gives AI agents the ability to obtain, verify, and prove real-world evidence before making logistics decisions.

💡 What is CargoProof?

CargoProof is an autonomous AI-powered logistics verification platform.

Instead of simply asking an AI for an answer, a user can submit a real-world verification request. CargoProof's agent determines what evidence is required, obtains evidence from available providers, evaluates its reliability, cross-checks multiple sources, and generates a verifiable proof of the final result.

Our core philosophy is:

AI agents shouldn't guess. They should verify before they act.

For example, a logistics operator could ask:

"Can a delivery truck currently reach this warehouse through this route?"

CargoProof can autonomously gather relevant evidence, evaluate the evidence, calculate a confidence score, and return a verified recommendation.

🤖 How We Built It

CargoProof is designed as an agentic workflow rather than a simple chatbot.

1. Request & Planning Agent

The system first understands the user's request and determines what needs to be verified.

For a route verification request, it may determine that it needs recent location-based evidence, timestamps, and multiple independent sources.

2. Evidence Agent

The Evidence Agent interacts with evidence providers and collects relevant information.

The architecture is designed to support different evidence sources such as:

  • Location and road-condition information
  • Images and observations
  • Documents and reports
  • Port and logistics information
  • External verification APIs

3. Autonomous Payment

Some evidence providers may require payment.

CargoProof integrates x402-style machine-to-machine payments, allowing an AI agent to respond to an HTTP 402 Payment Required response and programmatically pay for the required information.

This creates a workflow where software agents can autonomously purchase the information they need instead of requiring a human to manually intervene.

4. Verification Agent

The Verification Agent evaluates the collected evidence using multiple signals, including:

  • Evidence freshness
  • Location consistency
  • Source agreement
  • Conflicting reports
  • Evidence completeness

Rather than blindly trusting a single source, CargoProof attempts to establish confidence through cross-source verification.

5. Proof Agent

Once verification is complete, CargoProof generates a cryptographic digest of the verification record and uses Algorand to provide a tamper-evident proof layer.

The goal is not to put sensitive evidence directly on-chain, but to create a verifiable record that can demonstrate that a particular verification result was generated from a specific evidence set.

🔄 Example Workflow

A logistics operator submits:

"Verify whether this route is currently passable."

CargoProof performs:

User Request
     ↓
AI Agent understands the request
     ↓
Creates verification plan
     ↓
Requests relevant evidence
     ↓
Evidence provider requires payment
     ↓
Agent performs x402 payment
     ↓
Evidence is retrieved
     ↓
Verification Agent cross-checks sources
     ↓
Confidence score generated
     ↓
Proof generated
     ↓
Algorand verification record
     ↓
Verified logistics recommendation

The important difference is that the system does not simply generate an answer.

It plans → acts → obtains evidence → verifies → proves → decides.

🏗️ Technology Stack

CargoProof combines several technologies:

  • AI Agents — autonomous planning and decision-making
  • Python / FastAPI — verification and evidence services
  • TypeScript / Node.js — application and agent infrastructure
  • x402 — machine-to-machine payment workflow
  • USDC on Algorand Testnet — payment settlement
  • Algorand — verifiable proof and transaction records
  • REST APIs — communication between services and evidence providers
  • JSON-based evidence store — development evidence layer
  • Git & GitHub — source control and collaboration

🧠 What We Learned

Building CargoProof taught us that building an AI agent is much more than connecting an LLM to a few APIs.

We learned how to design agentic workflows where the system can determine what action to take next, rather than following only a fixed sequence of operations.

We also learned about:

  • Autonomous agent orchestration
  • Evidence evaluation and confidence scoring
  • Machine-to-machine payments
  • HTTP 402 payment workflows
  • Blockchain-based verification
  • API integration
  • Designing systems around trust and provenance
  • Building AI systems that interact with real-world data

One of our biggest takeaways was that trust should be treated as a first-class component of an autonomous AI system.

⚙️ Challenges We Faced

One of the biggest challenges was integrating multiple technologies into a single end-to-end workflow.

The project combines AI agents, APIs, payment infrastructure, evidence services, and blockchain components. Each component has different interfaces and failure conditions.

We also faced challenges around:

  • Coordinating asynchronous agent actions
  • Handling payment-required API responses
  • Designing a reliable evidence-verification workflow
  • Maintaining consistency between services
  • Recording verification results without exposing unnecessary data
  • Making the system understandable to a human user while keeping the underlying workflow autonomous

These challenges pushed us to move beyond building individual features and focus on designing the complete system architecture.

🌎 Why It Matters

CargoProof is initially demonstrated using logistics and route verification, but the underlying architecture can support many real-world verification problems.

Potential applications include:

  • 🚛 Logistics and transportation
  • 🚢 Port operations
  • 📦 Supply-chain monitoring
  • 🏭 Industrial operations
  • 🛡️ Insurance verification
  • 🌧️ Disaster and infrastructure monitoring
  • 🌐 AI agents that require trustworthy external information

Our long-term vision is to create a verification layer for autonomous AI agents operating in the physical world.

🚀 What's Next?

We want CargoProof to evolve from a prototype into a platform where businesses and autonomous AI agents can request verified real-world information through a simple API.

Future improvements include:

  • More real-world evidence providers
  • Multimodal evidence analysis
  • Stronger source reputation models
  • Automated conflict resolution
  • Production-grade payment infrastructure
  • More logistics verification use cases
  • Enterprise APIs and dashboards
  • A marketplace connecting evidence providers with AI agents
