Inspiration

Cargo iQ members face difficulties in obtaining complete visibility and coordination for the transportation of goods when non-member companies are involved. This results in gaps in information and inefficiencies throughout the air cargo journey. A solution needs to be developed to enable forwarder members to have planning and visibility of actual event times for the entire door-to-door journey, including events performed by third-party providers. This requires utilizing IATA ONE Record communication standards to ensure full visibility of these legs.

We want to bring the products that we already have in CHAMP Cargosystems to help solve this challenge.

What it does

Our solution utilizes CHAMP's existing products, Shipply.Vision and CDMP Monitoring Tool, and integrating it to IATA ONE Record.

Shipply.Vision can receive status updates on truck movements in real time, thus filling the former visibility gaps their customers experienced beforehand. Our solution will utilize Shipply.Vision to record door-to-door events and generate json data and push it directly to IATA ONE Record.

CDMP Monitoring Tool can monitor airport-to-airport events in real time, thus allowing station managers or the local GHAs to immediately address shipments that are about to fail or in failure to improve their performance. Our solution will extend Monitoring Tool to display door-to-door events by fetching data from ONE Record.

Using cumul.io, we also provide the dashboard view of the shipment where we can track the location of the shipment in real-time. Utilizing the IoT capabilities of Tag-N-Trac, we can also track the temperature of the shipment. This can also be pushed to ONE Record when IoT updates which is currently in experimental phase have been adopted to ONE Record.

How we built it

We took advantage of CHAMP Cargosystems products already deployed in production environment. We have Shipply to utilize scanning of QR codes by non-Cargo IQ third party partners. We have Cargo Data Management Portal that Cargo IQ partners can use to monitor and improve the efficiency of Air-to-Air cargo business. We even incorporated our innovative IoT sensors with collaboration with Tag-N-Trac which is in experimental stage to offer a full visibility of the entire door-to-door shipment journey.

We already have products that are deployed in production. We integrated OneRecord APIs into these products and we now have a very good solution!

Challenges we ran into

Initially, we had difficulties integrating OneRecord APIs. Primarily because this is the first time the team is using them. Thankfully, Daniel Doeppner was very accommodating to help us on this. The documentations provided by OneRecord also helped a lot. It was also a big and dauting task to use and integrate OneRecord APIs into three existing CHAMP products all at once in very limited time, but we were able to push though. In this Hackathon, we are also first-timers. The challenge is to be able to deliver a solution and present it in the best possible we way we could. This is not easy as we have very limited time to formulate ideas, develop and modify applications to prove the idea, and then be creative presenting the finished product. All of this in such a very short time!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to provide a solution that would really help CargoIQ members as well as the non-CargoIQ members collaborate in a very simple but effective way using OneRecord and CHAMP's production quality products. Not only that, our final solution also offers a sustainable solution that is paperless, user-friendly, collaborative and cost-efficient. The Hackathon team worked efficiently and effectively to produce and present this solution in a very limited time. Everyone contributed and had fun in this IATA event.

What we learned

That OneRecord can be a very good solution for a very sustainable cargo industry. That if everyone worked together to achieve a common goal, we can find a solution. That our Hackathon team is fun, smart and effective.

What's next for Cargo Data Monitoring Tool Integrated to OneRecord

With the presentation of our solution, we can motivate and inspire not only CHAMP Cargosystems but other stakeholders as well to push this into production. Unlike most other innovative ideas, most of our solution is already in production enviroment where our customers are using. So with just a little more push and motivation, we can integrate the OneRecord APIs to make this a reality that will provide full visibility of the entire door-to-door shipment journey.
