Inspiration

At the time, the collapse of health facilities is aggravated by the lack of an efficient, user-friendly interface between hospital information systems and health professionals. Moreover, nurses spend 77 minutes daily just retrieving and updating information, often relying on weak mediums for knowledge transfer (oral and handwritten communication). We need a solution that can streamline communication, manage notifications and patient status updates in an agile way.

What it does

Care Tracker is a resilient communication solution for health professionals with an emphasis on nursing staff. It allows nurses to share information with each other in faster and more reliable ways. The system provides:

  1. A useful and intuitive graphical interface for the retrieval and update of patient information on the go
  2. Diagnostic prediction to fast-track diagnosis
  3. Real-time notification of medical emergencies
  4. Real-time, automatic interaction with each hospital's management system for permanent patient information updates. The hospital management system does not have to be modified to interact with Care Tracker.

How we built it

We have a working demo of the autofilling of forms using AutoHotKeys and Python3.8 that autofills mockup forms of the demo of the hospital management system HospitalRun.

Challenges we ran into

Firstly, it was hard to get insight from health professionals given the current circumstances, but we managed to conduct surveys and interviews and consult research to identify the core of our problem and a viable solution. The main challenge of this solution is overcoming the technical difficulties of interacting through software with the tightly closed Healthcare Information Systems. They provide little to no interface apart from the user's, and providing a solution like ours must rely on workarounds that are not technically trivial.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  1. A full and coordinated user experience that eases the workload of professionals.
  2. Technical demos, all the needed to start working.

What's next for CareTracker

  1. Studying thoroughly the real needs of healthcare professionals in the field of information communication and hospital protocols which enable them.
  2. Studying and achieving access to ubiquitous Healthcare Information Systems to develop automatic interaction with them.
  3. Developing and testing a Minimum Viable product based on those studies
