Inspiration

SelfCare was inspired by the difficulty of tracking my paraplegic father’s health. Important details—fluid intake/output, medicines, vitals, food, symptoms, bowel patterns, and clinical events—were easy to miss when spread across notes and memory.

What it does

SelfCare is a personal and family health tracker. It supports linked family profiles, daily health logging, reminders, clinical records, trend charts, doctor-friendly history, and Excel exports.

How we built it

We built a mobile-first FastAPI application with SQLite storage, a responsive web interface, profile-based access, configurable tracking measures, and medical-record visualizations.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenges were making complex health data simple to log, ensuring charts represent repeated readings correctly, handling offline use, separating family profiles safely, and avoiding misleading clinical interpretations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We created one place for everyday care information, including fluid balance, BP, diabetes, thyroid, food nutrition, medicines, stool, menstrual cycles, symptoms, vaccinations, eyesight, catheterization, and more.

What we learned

Health tracking is not only about collecting numbers. Date, time, context, laboratory ranges, medication schedules, and clear visual history are essential for making records useful during medical reviews.

What's next for SelfCare — Everyday Care, Clearly Connected.

Next, we plan to add secure cloud storage, caregiver sharing permissions, stronger notifications, clinician-ready reports, accessible language options, integrations with wearables, and privacy/security controls suitable for real-world health data.
