Inspiration

Living overseas, far from our parents due to work, we often worry about their well-being, especially when they are alone. That’s why we created CareTaker—an AI-powered assistant designed to ensure our loved ones always have the help they need, whenever they need it.

Saurab’s inspiration came from a deeply personal experience. His father suffered a stroke, and by the time help arrived, it was too late. Now, he is determined to build an AI that can assist his mother in India, ensuring she is never alone in moments of need.

For Natasya, the motivation was different but just as personal. Her father refuses help from strangers, making traditional caregiving services difficult. However, an AI assistant isn’t human—it doesn’t feel intrusive or unfamiliar. She believes this would make him more open to asking for help with his daily needs.

Additionally, Natasya's grandmother suffers from dementia, often making it challenging for caregivers to assist her. With AI, she can receive continuous support without feeling like a stranger is constantly watching over her.

What it does

CareTaker is designed to be more than just an assistant—it’s a companion and guardian for elderly individuals, providing:

Conversation & Engagement: Answers questions, such as explaining what’s happening in a TV show.
Smart Reminders: Medication alerts, meal reminders, and doctor’s appointment notifications.
Emergency Assistance: Instantly calls emergency contacts or healthcare providers in urgent situations.
Medical Records Access: Quickly retrieves patient history for emergency responders, ensuring faster and more informed care.
Daily Necessities: Orders groceries and medication prescriptions with ease.
Routine Check-Ins: Regular wellness check-ins to monitor health and well-being.
Health Tracking: Monitors vital signs and health patterns over time.

How we built it

We combined cutting-edge AI technologies to bring CareTaker to life:

Gemini through Llama Index: Enables image-to-text capabilities, making the AI more intuitive.
Whisper: Converts voice memos into text-based reminders, ensuring seamless communication.
Llama 3.3 70B with Together AI (DeepSeek R1 & Llama 3.3): Powers advanced voice-based reasoning, making CareTaker a highly responsive and intelligent assistant.

Challenges we ran into

Time constraints were our biggest hurdle. With limited hours, we had to quickly align on our vision, refine our idea, and piece everything together while ensuring feasibility.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite starting as strangers just 48 hours ago, we collaborated, innovated, and built a working MVP—one that has the potential to genuinely improve lives.

What we learned

This experience pushed us to explore new sponsor tools and technologies that we hadn’t worked with before, expanding our knowledge and technical capabilities.

What's next for CareTaker

We envision integrating CareTaker with existing health and communication tools, such as:

Hearing aids for seamless auditory assistance.
Messaging apps like WhatsApp for easier interaction with family.
Smart assistants like Siri for voice command integration.
Wearables like Fitbit & Apple Watch to monitor health in real-time.
