Inspiration
In-home health monitoring for elderly individuals is essential for ensuring safety and enabling early medical intervention. We were inspired to develop an accessible, automated solution that continuously tracks vital health parameters and bridge the gap between patients and healthcare responders during emergencies.
What it does
Our project is an IoT-based medical instrumentation system designed for in-home elderly monitoring. It continuously collects physiological readings through dedicated biomedical sensors, processes data via an Arduino microcontroller, and instantly triggers real-time alerts upon detecting critical health anomalies.
How we built it
- Hardware Integration: Configured an Arduino microcontroller with specialized biomedical sensors (such as heart rate, pulse oximetry, and temperature sensors) for accurate signal acquisition.
- Firmware Development: Wrote C/C++ scripts to process real-time biometric data and manage sensor thresholds.
- IoT & Communication: Integrated communication modules to stream biometric data securely and generate automated real-time alerts.
Challenges we ran into
- Filtering signal noise and calibrating biomedical sensors to ensure medical-grade measurement accuracy.
- Designing a low-latency alert mechanism for immediate emergency responses.
- Ensuring robust system performance and energy efficiency during continuous operation.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Successfully developing a fully functional hardware-software prototype.
- Achieving precise real-time detection and rapid alerting for critical health events.
What we learned
- Practical expertise in embedding biomedical instrumentation with microcontroller logic.
- Best practices in developing IoT healthcare solutions focused on patient safety.
What's next for CarePulse IoT
- Integrating cloud-based dashboard analytics and predictive AI models for trend evaluation.
- Expanding wireless sensor connectivity and testing ergonomics for daily elderly use.
