Inspiration
We live in an apartment complex where the mail pickup is cramped and there is no organized way to pick up the mails during this period of social distancing which puts all of our fellow neighbors' lives at risk. This inspired us to make an app that would help solve the issue.
What it does
CarePost is meant to be used by the mailmen. The app takes the deliveries of the day as inputs and searches our database to appoint designated pickup times. The app then automatically sends emails to the recipients of the mails.
How we built it
We used Android Studio to create the app. Once the backbone was built, we implemented the database of all the tenants using Firestore. The automatic email system was built using the Intent class.
Challenges we ran into
Since we had minimum experience with databases and app creating, we had to dedicate a lot of our time learning the basics.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are extremely proud of the fact that we could implement the reading and writing of data seamlessly. We are also proud of the fact that we were able to create a fully functional application within such a short period of time.
What we learned
Due to our lack of experience, we had to make major strides in our knowledge of reading and writing online databases and app creation. We are also now much more proficient in Android Studios.
What's next for CarePost
We would love to keep implementing quality of life features such as changing the pickup time based on the availability of the tenants, keeping track of the packages which have not been picked up within their designated time and hopefully publish CarePost in the Google Play Store so that management can have an easier time managing their tenants in this time of crisis.
