  The Silent Struggle of Elderly Care: How AI Could Bridge the Growing Gaps in a Broken

Inspiration

CareNet was inspired by the challenges faced by home caregivers of elderly people. We noticed how stressful and demanding caregiving can be, especially without proper technological support.

What it does

CareNet uses AI to monitor seniors’ health by analyzing voice and sensor data. It sends reminders for medications and appointments, detects caregiver stress, and adapts to individual needs to improve quality of life for both seniors and caregivers.

How we built it

We built the app using AI models for voice emotion recognition, IoT sensors for health data, React for the frontend, and Firebase for backend data storage and authentication.

Challenges we ran into

We faced difficulties ensuring accurate emotion detection across different voices and accents, creating an easy-to-use interface for older adults, and optimizing performance for lower-end mobile devices.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully integrated real-time sensor data with AI analysis and developed a user-friendly app tailored to seniors and their caregivers. The app effectively detects emotional stress and adapts to users’ routines.

What we learned

We gained experience in training AI for emotion recognition, combining IoT data with cloud backend, and designing accessible UX for non-technical users.

What's next for CareNet

We plan to improve emotion detection accuracy, add support for more health sensors, and expand the app’s features to offer personalized care recommendations and community support for caregivers.
