💡 What Inspired Us
In millions of households across the globe, caring for an elderly parent’s daily medication routine is an exercise in low-tech anxiety. Prescriptions are scribbled on paper slips, dosages live in memory, and daily status checks happen via fragmented family WhatsApp chats or repetitive phone calls ("Did you take your morning blood pressure tablet?").
When seniors are forced to use smartphone pill-tracking apps, adoption fails. Typing, scrolling through tiny text, and navigating modern mobile UI paradigms present an unnecessary cognitive and physical barrier. Yet, when voice interfaces are introduced without structured context, virtual assistants suffer from short-term memory: they don't know what pill was taken, what dosage remains, or when to quietly alert a long-distance caregiver that a dose was missed.
We built CareLoop to bridge this gap for the Amazon Developer Hackathon (Alexa+ Track). We realized that voice is the natural, frictionless interface for elderly care recipients, while structured, self-hosted Model Context Protocol (MCP) tool-calling provides the missing memory, determinism, and safety guarantees required for elder caregiving.
