Inspiration

Decisions made during a medical emergency are often driven by panic, not information. We recently saw this firsthand when a teammate fractured her leg—in the moment, the only thought was getting to the nearest door, not whether the hospital was in-network or affordable. We believe that healing should not be a financial gamble. We built CareLess to ensure that everyone has the right to accessible, transparent healthcare at minimal costs.

What it does

CareLess is an AI-powered patient advocate designed to remove the "fear of the bill" from healthcare:

  • Pre-Visit Advocate: Searches for the best-fit hospital based on your specific insurance. It breaks down estimated costs and identifies specialists before you even walk through the door.
  • Post-Visit Auditor: Translates cryptic EOB (Explanation of Benefits) statements into plain English. If a claim is denied, it generates a "ready-to-send" appeal template.
  • Community Safety Net: A Solana-powered crowdfunding platform for students in medical need and a map of nearby free health campaigns.
  • Transparency Engine: Analyzes claim data to provide a "denial risk percentage" and maintains a secure billing history with intelligent financial insights.

How we built it

We combined cutting-edge AI with decentralized finance to create a robust advocacy layer:

  • Google Gemini 2.0 Flash: Our core engine for auditing medical claims and identifying billing errors.
  • ElevenLabs: Provides accessible, voice-guided support for patients in high-stress emergency situations.
  • Solana Blockchain: Enables instant, zero-fee medical donations for students through transparent crowdfunding.
  • Capital One API: Integrated to provide data insights and smart financial recommendations for smarter spending.
  • Vultr: Provides the scalable infrastructure used to deploy and host the CareLess platform.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was translating the "language of insurance"—medical codes, CPTs, and ICD-10 data—into something a regular person can understand. Additionally, building a system that can process highly sensitive financial data while maintaining a user experience that feels simple and human was a major technical hurdle.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully configured and deployed our entire stack on a scalable Vultr architecture where every component—AI, blockchain, and finance—is seamlessly connected. We are incredibly proud of delivering a platform that is not only robust and highly accessible but also captures the strong, ambitious architecture we planned within such a demanding timeframe. Seeing the "ease of use" in a system as complex as healthcare advocacy is our greatest achievement.

What we learned

Building a solution is never as linear as it seems on paper. We learned that while code can be written quickly, solving a systemic, real-world problem requires an immense depth of research and architecture. Navigating legal jargon, insurance complexity, and high-stakes financial technology taught us that true innovation lies in making the "interface of a crisis" feel calm, reliable, and effortless for the user.

What's next for CareLess

We plan to wrap CareLess into a browser plugin and offer it as a white-label solution for medical insurance portals. Our goal is to make CareLess a standard layer of protection for every patient, everywhere.
