Inspiration
After dealing with acne for years and watching friends struggle with misdiagnoses and long wait times to see dermatologists—or even sitting in ER waiting rooms for urgent skin issues—we realized how confusing and slow it can be to get clear answers. We wanted to build something that helps people understand their skin earlier, whether it’s a routine concern or something that might need more immediate attention.
What it does
CareLens is an AI skin scanning app with two main features. The first focuses on everyday skincare, giving users simple insights and routine suggestions for concerns like acne, dryness, or irritation. The second is a more urgent triage feature that flags potentially serious skin issues and helps users decide if they should seek medical care sooner, helping avoid unnecessary ER visits or delays.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was working with image analysis APIs. Many were either too general to accurately assess skin concerns or had rate limits and slow response times.
