Inspiration

In West Africa, healthcare systems face numerous challenges, particularly in patient identification and the secure management of medical data. These gaps complicate quick access to care, especially in emergencies.
CareIdentity is inspired by the need to provide an innovative digital solution tailored to local realities, capable of sustainably transforming the quality of care.

Our project aims to solve three main issues:

  • Quickly and accurately identifying patients.
  • Ensuring the security and confidentiality of medical data.
  • Combating the falsification of medical documents, such as prescriptions and certificates.

What it does

CareIdentity is a digital solution that combines:

  1. Rapid identification: Using technologies like biometrics or QR codes to ensure reliable patient identification.
  2. Secure management of medical data: A platform that centralizes health information while ensuring confidentiality standards are met.
  3. Document verification: Implementing an anti-forgery system for prescriptions and medical certificates.

How we built it

  1. Analyzing the needs of healthcare professionals and patients.
  2. Designing the platform with a user-centered approach.
  3. Integrating modern technologies for identification and data management.
  4. Testing and optimization to ensure the system’s robustness and reliability.

Challenges we ran into

Although the project is still in the design phase, here are the challenges we anticipate:

  • Digital infrastructure: Ensuring functionality in areas with low internet connectivity.
  • User adoption: Facilitating the transition from paper-based systems to a digital solution.
  • Data protection: Complying with confidentiality regulations while providing easy access for healthcare professionals.

What we learned

From the early stages of design, we have learned that:

  1. Simplicity is key to ensuring widespread adoption of the solution.
  2. Challenges related to data privacy require a rigorous and innovative approach.
  3. An effective solution must be locally adapted to the technological and economic realities of the region.

What's next for CareIdentity

The next steps for CareIdentity include:

  1. Launching a functional prototype to test technical feasibility.
  2. Collaborating with local healthcare partners to refine the features.
  3. Developing an awareness strategy to facilitate user adoption.
  4. Expanding the project to other regions of West Africa to maximize its impact.
