Inspiration
After completing high school, I really struggled to choose what I want to become in life. There were people who gave generic advices, but after doing research I realized it is necessary to be precise and a career should be chosen after understanding your preferences. Information is scattered across many websites and platforms. Students often feel pressured rather than guided and there is no clear, personalized way to explore career paths.
What it does
Students begin by setting their preferences using sliders such as salary expectations, difficulty level, demand, and social impact. Based on these inputs, CareerTree displays careers with matching percentages, allowing students to easily compare and select options that best align with their goals.
How I built it
Built entirely with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, CareerTree uses a scalable, data-driven architecture that allows new careers to be added easily without creating new pages.
Challenges I ran into
It was quite challenging to design a UI that aligns with holiday session while remaining user-friendly and convenient. I had to plan out almost everything in a piece of paper. Ask to my friends and family What could be improved and poured my time and effort.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The user interface is absolutely stunning, and I'm particularly impressed by how perfectly it captures the Christmas theme. The students are provided with excellent, relevant information, which is exactly the level of guidance I wished I had access to when I was exploring my own career path.
What we learned
This experience truly proved that pouring my heart and soul into a project, dedicating all my time to focused, isolated work, yields worthwhile results. It required pushing past my comfort zone to master concepts like DOM manipulation in JavaScript, and achieving responsiveness was a particularly demanding task.
What's next for CareerTree - Visual Career & College Exploration Tool
I need to significantly increase data accuracy and expand to cover the entire journey, from initial career exploration to detailed university discovery, budgeting, and student loan planning.
