Inspiration: Our inspiration for this was finding it hard for us, as high schoolers to figure out a career path for us to follow in the future. We figured this went the same for many high schoolers alike, especially underprivileged high schoolers. So, we created CareerTrack to help underprivileged high schoolers pave their future with this free application.
What it does: CareerTrack allows high schoolers to explore different career paths. They can research what paths they want to take, and start networking with professionals in the field! This can guide many students as many aren’t sure about what they want to do in the future. CareerTrack is a interactive platform designed to help users explore, plan, and navigate their career paths with personalized guidance and resources.
How we built it: We used Bootstrap as an aid for basic functionalities of the website. We used HTML for frontend programming and formatting. We used CSS to achieve desired layout and visual designs. Python used to develop the ChatBot feature from ChatGPT. ChatGPT was used as an API for the chatbot in order to model a real professional.
Challenges we ran into: It was difficult to develop the chatbot using ChatGPT as an API. We had numerous errors/problems we ran into while downloading necessary files/libraries.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: We were proud of how the website turned out in the end and how the chatbot functioned/worked.
What we learned: We learned how to use Bootstrap effectively, how to communicate with others in a group to ensure success, and how to use APIs to achieve a final goal.
What's next for CareerTrack: Improve the functionality of the chatbot, and add additional resources about different careers for all types of paths.
