Inspiration
Watching peers spend months lost in generic career advice, I wanted to build something that turns uncertainty into action. Professionals deserve personalized, data-backed guidance to pivot careers—not guesswork. That spark led to CareerSwitch Coach: a tool to make career transitions structured and achievable.
What it does
It’s a SaaS platform for 25-45 professionals to assess career transition feasibility, build customizable 90-day plans, optimize resumes/LinkedIn profiles, practice interviews with AI, and plan transition finances—all in one place.
How we built it
We started with user research to map pain points, then built the core with Python/React for frontend/backend. We integrated labor market APIs for real-time data, OpenAI for NLP/AI matching, and AWS for cloud hosting. PostgreSQL stores user data, Stripe handles subscriptions, and OCR parses resume uploads.
Challenges we ran into
Syncing real-time labor market data across regions caused latency; fine-tuning the AI skill-matching algorithm for 500+ careers took weeks; ensuring GDPR/CCPA compliance added complex data privacy layers; limiting mock interview access per subscription tier required precise access control logic.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating an AI algorithm that delivers actionable skill gap insights; building a fully responsive platform with 90% user completion for feasibility assessments; launching three subscription tiers with secure payment processing; meeting WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.
What we learned
User-centric design is non-negotiable—early feedback reshaped 90-day plan customization. Balancing AI automation with human flexibility builds trust, and GDPR compliance isn’t just a checkbox but a core user need for data privacy.
What's next for this project
Add voice-based mock interviews, integrate more job board tools, expand language support (EU languages first), refine financial planning with upskilling cost estimators, and launch corporate team plans for organizations investing in employee career growth.
