Inspiration
Knowing that many minority groups are not represented enough in STEM fields, we knew that we had to address the problem and help find a solution. We created a website that helps guide people into the STEM field that's best for them and connect them to experts that are also part of unrepresented communities in STEM.
What it does
Our platform helps users choose a career path in STEM that best suits them via taking a Careerster quiz and connects them to experts in their field of interest from all races and genders. It also offers possible internship opportunities in STEM for high school students.
How we built it
The website was built using HTML, CSS, and Javascript on Replit.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge we ran into was formatting the elements for ease of access. Moreover, adjusting the transitions between pages was difficult at times as well as customizing/animating the buttons on our pages.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Something we are proud of from this project is building the entire website from scratch in a short period of time. The career quiz was especially difficult to create as well as animating the buttons and creating a visually pleasing website.
What we learned
This experience taught us always to persevere even when coding becomes frustrating. Furthermore, we discovered the extent that web development can stretch to by exploring different approaches to problems.
What's next for Careersters
The next step in this project would be to actually connect with real experts and further develop the internship aspect.
