A friend of ours recently started exploring a career pivot, and we quickly discovered how difficult it is to find the right guidance for the journey. Most career platforms focus on job matching or generic personality assessments. To get actionable, personalized guidance, you typically have to hire a human career coach—which can cost hundreds or thousands of dollars.

These human coaches manually review your background, identify transferable skills, and map out a learning plan. We realized that this entire operational workflow—ingesting unstructured experience and outputting a structured career roadmap—could be completely automated. That experience inspired us to build CareerPivot.me: an AI-powered career transition business that delivers the bespoke value of a premium career coach at a fraction of the cost, operating at infinite scale.

How we built it

The application is built with Next.js (App Router), TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS for a fast, SEO-optimized frontend. The interactive roadmap utilizes React Flow to render the node graphs smoothly across devices.

For the backend, Supabase manages PostgreSQL databases, user authentication, and secure resume storage. Stripe handles the checkout sessions and payment webhooks for the blueprint paywall. Google's Gemini 1.5 Pro powers the autonomous agent, utilizing its massive context window to ingest resumes and output deeply structured, personalized JSON roadmaps that power the frontend visualization.

Challenges & What we Learned

One of the biggest challenges was making the recommendations deeply personal without hallucinating generic advice. A career pivot is sensitive; a simple list of courses isn't enough. The AI agent had to be carefully engineered to explain why a skill matters, how to practice it, and what evidence the user needs to create.

We also had to build around trust and privacy. Because resumes contain sensitive data, the product includes explicit storage consent, account controls, and secure data handling, ensuring a clear boundary between the free teaser and the paid blueprint.

Ultimately, this project proved that AI can do much more than generate text—it can autonomously operate the core fulfillment engine of a profitable, scalable business, making premium career guidance accessible to everyone.
