Inspiration
Most students, especially from small towns and rural areas, struggle to figure out which field truly suits them. Without access to proper career counseling, many end up choosing a field based on peer pressure, family expectations, or trends — leading to confusion and regret later. This problem is personal: as a small-town student myself, I've seen how a lack of guidance can shape the wrong path for talented students.
What it does
CareerPilot AI is a system where each major field (Science, Commerce, Arts, Engineering, Medicine, Design, etc.) has 20-30 psychology-based questions. These questions measure a student's natural interests, thinking style, and strengths — not their existing knowledge. Based on the answers, the AI generates an interest-profile and matches the student to the field they align with most, along with possible future career roles in that field.
How I built it
The project extends an existing prototype built with React, Tailwind CSS, and the Claude API. Psychology-based scoring logic analyzes response patterns across the 20-30 questions per field to calculate a field-match percentage, which is then shown to the student along with relevant career paths.
Challenges I ran into
- Designing psychology-based questions that are genuinely unbiased and accurately reflect interest rather than knowledge
- Matching the depth of a real career counselor's guidance using AI alone
- Ensuring result accuracy depends heavily on how honestly students answer
What's next for CareerPilot AI
Expanding the question bank for more fields, adding multilingual support so students from all backgrounds can use it in their own language, and partnering with schools to make career guidance accessible to more students.
