Careero helps students find careers that fit who they are then schools and scholarships near them so they do not have to choose blind the way we once did.

  1. ) Inspiration

When it was time for college in the Philippines I faced a quiet kind of panic. I did not know which school fit the work I wanted. I did not know which scholarships existed for my course. So I just defaulted to what was near and what seemed available. Looking back then believe I would have chosen computer studies instead of information technology if I had understood my strengths earlier. There was no AI map for that moment. Only guesswork and hope.

So me and my girlfriend built Careero so the next student does not have to choose that way. We want the path from who you are to where you can grow to feel clear hopeful and possible.

2.) What it does

Careero is a multilingual visual career assessment for students. Careero is close to the filipino word "Kurso ko" which means "My Course" so we choose Careero for the name XD.

Creero:

  1. Answer 30 visual choices in English Japanese Chinese Spanish Tagalog, French, etc..
  2. Answers stay local in the browser with no user database
  3. Careero builds a RIASEC profile and ranks careers you can understand
  4. After the assessment users can see top 10 career matches.
  5. Open a profession and Careero suggests schools and universities tied to the place you selected prioritizing options near user.
  6. It highlights schools that fit that profession well plus scholarships and programs students can use with real links when verified.
  7. Users can share a clean result card without dumping private answers.

3.) How we built it

We built Careero as a small team sharing one laptop. We take turns. One of us drives UI UX polish and video editing. The other drives architecture API work tests and validation then rests while the other continues. That constraint forced clarity. Ship the student experience first. Keep the system honest.

We used Codex and GPT-5.6 heavily for planning architecture code testing and validation. That help let us turn the idea into a working product faster while we still made the product decisions ourselves especially around the visual assessment privacy and education-first recommendations.

The stack is a React ,Vite ,frontend with a Node recommendation API local RIASEC scoring O*NET career ranking and multi-provider research with failover when free Gemini demand spiked.

4.) Challenges we ran into

Free Gemini API demand was high and unreliable for demos. We had to find and wire alternative providers so Careero could keep researching schools and scholarships when one pool got busy. Grounding real school and scholarship links without inventing facts was another hard line we refused to cross.

5.) Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the visual assessment. It feels different from the long text quizzes students are used to. We are also proud that Careero connects career fit to schools near you and scholarships you can actually pursue in one calm flow.

6.) What we learned

We learned that students do not need more noise. They need a clear next step. We learned that free AI capacity is fragile so real products need failover not hope. And we learned that building together on one machine slows the ego and sharpens the product.

7.) What's next for Careero

We want Careero to become as familiar for career guidance as personality tests are for self-understanding like MBTI test. With AI it can keep suggesting strong schools for the profession that fits you. Next we will add more languages so more students who do not speak English can use it improve grounding and make the mobile experience stronger.
