Inspiration As students, we saw how hard it is to convert skills and projects into real internships or freelance work when everything is scattered across Google Docs, Notion, WhatsApp, and job portals. CareerLaunch was inspired by this gap: students do the hard work of learning and building, but lack a simple system to organize their portfolio, track opportunities, and get structured feedback from mentors or recruiters.
What it does CareerLaunch is a web app that gives students one place to manage their career journey: build a clean portfolio, log every internship/hackathon/freelance application, and collect feedback from mentors. Students get a personal dashboard that shows their projects, application statuses, upcoming deadlines, and recent feedback so they always know their next action.
How we built it We built CareerLaunch entirely on Base44 using natural-language prompts to generate the initial app and then refined pages, data models, and workflows in the visual editor. Base44’s built-in auth, database, and backend functions handle user accounts, portfolio data, application entries, and feedback submissions, so we could focus on UX and the real student problem instead of boilerplate setup.
Challenges we ran into Designing a data model that stays simple for students but flexible enough to handle many applications, statuses, and feedback types was tricky in a short time. We also had to learn how to “talk” to Base44 properly—writing clear prompts, understanding how it structures data, and iterating quickly without breaking existing flows.
Accomplishments that we're proud of We went from idea to a working, full-stack app with auth, dashboards, and forms in a single hackathon using a no-code/AI platform, despite limited prior experience. We’re proud that CareerLaunch directly solves a real pain we and our friends face—confusion around internships and portfolios—rather than being just a demo.
What we learned We learned how powerful no-code + AI tools like Base44 can be for quickly testing ideas, as long as we think clearly about data structure, user flows, and prompts. We also learned how important it is to scope an MVP: choosing core features (portfolio, tracker, feedback) and saying “no” to extras so we could ship on time.
What's next for CareerLaunch: Smart Portfolio & Opportunity Tracker Next, we want to integrate external job/internship feeds and send smart reminders for deadlines via email or WhatsApp using integrations supported by Base44. We also plan to add mentor and recruiter views, so they can discover students by skills, leave structured feedback faster, and help more students launch their careers.
