Students often find it challenging to identify suitable entry-level jobs, understand the skills required for different roles, and keep track of applications. We created CareerAI to bring resume review, job exploration, and application tracking together in one student-friendly platform.

What it does

CareerAI is a student-focused job search assistant built to help students prepare for their job search.

Its features include:

  • PDF resume upload and skill detection
  • Resume review and improvement suggestions
  • Resume-based skill matching
  • Sample entry-level job recommendations
  • Student education details and job preferences
  • Application tracking with status updates
  • In-app follow-up reminders
  • Links to LinkedIn and Naukri job searches

How we built it

We developed CareerAI using Python and Streamlit. SQLite stores user profiles, student details, and application records. PyMuPDF is used to read PDF resume content, while ReportLab helps generate downloadable resume drafts.

Challenges we faced

One challenge was combining several job-search features into one easy-to-use application. We also worked on handling resume PDFs, storing student information, tracking application statuses, and supporting follow-up dates.

What we learned

Through this project, we gained practical experience in Python application development, database integration, PDF processing, and building an interactive web interface.

What's next

Future improvements could include verified live job listings, more advanced resume analysis, and optional external notifications.

Limitations

CareerAI is a local prototype. Job recommendations are sample role profiles, not verified live vacancies. Resume analysis uses rule-based checks rather than an external AI service. Email, SMS, LinkedIn, and Naukri notifications are not integrated, and the application does not submit job applications automatically.
