💫 Inspiration

Choosing a career path is one of the most defining — and often most confusing — decisions in a student’s life.
Many students, especially in countries like India and China, grow up under immense pressure to pursue fields chosen by their families rather than their own hearts.

According to a Mindler survey (2019) published by India Today, 93% of Indian students aged 14–21 are aware of only seven career options, though there are over 250 possible professions.
A 2024 study in the PMC Journal revealed that 87% of adolescents in India face high parental pressure when choosing their careers.
And as India Today (2025) reported, only 10% of students receive formal career counseling, leaving 90% to make career decisions blindly.

These numbers paint a painful reality — students often walk paths that aren’t truly theirs.
We wanted to change that.

Our inspiration came from something deeply human — journaling.
When we journal, we unconsciously reveal our real emotions, interests, and patterns over time.
That’s when we realized:

What if AI could read between the lines of our journals and help us understand ourselves better — maybe even guide us toward our dream careers?

That thought gave birth to CareerPath AI — a platform that turns daily reflections into lifelong direction.

💡 What It Does

CareerPath AI analyzes users’ daily journal entries using Generative AI and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to understand their emotions, motivations, and recurring themes.

It then provides:

🎯 Top 3 career paths aligned with their emotional and intellectual patterns.
🚫 3 careers to avoid based on disinterest or negative emotional trends.
📈 Mood and confidence graphs to visualize mental growth over time.
🧭 AI-driven learning suggestions and a friendly AI mentor offering personalized insights.

In short, it’s a companion that listens, understands, and guides — helping users make career choices that truly resonate with their passions.

🧠 Problem Statement

In countries like India and China, students often make career choices based on societal pressure, family expectations, or limited awareness rather than personal discovery.

Existing career tools fall short because they:

Ask 10–20 fixed questions — giving static and generic results.
Fail to capture the emotional depth behind human decisions.
Ignore how interests evolve as one grows.

CareerPath AI was built to fix this — by transforming daily emotions into career insights, offering adaptive and empathetic guidance that evolves with the student.

🚀 Proposed Solution

Our solution blends AI’s analytical power with the emotional intelligence of journaling.
Every day, users can write or speak about their experiences — what excited them, what bored them, what made them curious.

The system then:

🗣 Transcribes voice notes using OpenAI Whisper.
🧠 Processes journal entries using NLP and sentiment analysis.
💾 Converts text into vector embeddings stored in a Supabase vector database.
🎯 Generates personalized career predictions and insights using OpenAI GPT models.

This continuous process ensures that as users evolve, their career guidance evolves with them — dynamic, personal, and emotionally aware.

Frontend:
Built with React.js and Tailwind CSS for a modern, responsive user experience.

Backend:
Developed using Supabase Edge Functions and Node.js for secure AI integration.

Database:
Used PostgreSQL via Supabase for structured journaling logs and vector storage for embeddings.

AI Integration:
Leveraged OpenAI APIs for emotion detection, sentiment mapping, and contextual understanding.

Deployment:
Frontend hosted on Vercel; Supabase handled backend and database operations seamlessly.
