Inspiration
We were inspired by the challenges faced by fresh graduates in Singapore who struggle to navigate fragmented career information across multiple job portals, government platforms, and training providers. Despite the availability of data, many graduates are unable to convert it into clear career pathways. We were also motivated to design a solution that is inclusive, addressing accessibility barriers faced by users with physical disabilities.
What it does
Career Passport is a unified, accessibility-first career intelligence platform that helps fresh graduates transform fragmented career data into personalized, actionable roadmaps for employment. Users can upload their resumes to analyze skill readiness, view color-coded skill match scores, receive targeted upskilling recommendations, track job applications, and interact with the platform using voice input for hands-free accessibility.
How we built it
We built Career Passport using a lightweight, modular architecture. The frontend is developed with HTML and JavaScript for fast interaction and clear visualization. The backend uses Node.js with Express to handle resume uploads and skill analysis. We implemented resume parsing logic, a skill-matching and scoring mechanism, and browser-based speech-to-text for voice input, ensuring both functionality and accessibility.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was designing a system that balances simplicity with meaningful analysis under tight time constraints. Integrating accessibility features while keeping the interface intuitive was another challenge. We also had to carefully structure skill scoring to ensure the results were easy to interpret for users without technical backgrounds.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of delivering a fully working, end-to-end platform that goes beyond job listings to provide actionable career guidance. Successfully integrating resume analysis, color-coded skill readiness, and voice input for accessibility within a short timeframe is a key achievement. Most importantly, we created a solution that is inclusive and aligned with real workforce needs in Singapore.
What we learned
Through this project, we learned the importance of designing career technology that prioritizes clarity and actionability over information overload. We also gained valuable experience in building accessibility-focused features and learned how thoughtful UX decisions can significantly improve user confidence and engagement.
What's next for Career Passport
Next, we plan to enhance Career Passport with deeper AI-driven career recommendations, real-time job data integrations, and smarter resume-to-job matching. We also aim to expand accessibility features, introduce employer feedback loops, and partner with training providers to offer seamless enrollment into upskilling programs.
