Inspiration

My friends and family have always been asked, "What do you want to be when you grow up," multiple times in their life, and their response is always, "I don't know." I have family graduating college, and they still have no idea what job they want to pursue. This gave me an idea to build a project to help direct and inspire people into what career they want to do in their life.

What it does

My project asks the user a few questions. The user will select answers based on what they want and are looking for in a job. After that, my project will then give the user results of their answers. These results will be potential jobs that the user could look into more. This can help people get an idea of what they want to do in life.

How we built it

I coded everything using Visual Studio Code in the coding language Python. Each aspect was coded in Python. For the GUI, I used the Tkinter library in Python.

Challenges we ran into

It was difficult working with Tkinter as it was my first time doing so. I also never coded a big project like this before, so I was taking shots in the dark. I also did not know how to optimize or write the best code, so a lot of sloppy code has been written.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud that my project successfully works. It accurately gives the user job suggestions based on the user's answers to the questions.

What we learned

I learned a lot about Tkinter and am much more comfortable working with it now. My python knowledge has also increased during this Hackathon. I also now know how to approach a big project like this one, and I cannot wait to code more projects.

What's next for Career Nominator

I plan on adding more jobs to Career Nominator to help give the user even more suggestions. I also plan to add more questions to ask to help give better potential jobs to the user that fit what they are looking for. I also want to optimize my code to make adding more features much more easier in the future.
