Inspiration: We realized that everyone tells you to network to get a job, but nobody actually teaches you how to do it strategically.
What it does: CareerCompass is an AI-powered career GPS that helps you discover the right role, identify your skill gaps, and build a personalized networking strategy to access the hidden job market.
How we built it: We built a React frontend powered by the Claude API, with no backend or database, everything is generated in real time through carefully engineered prompts.
Challenges we ran into: Getting the AI to produce outreach messages that feel genuinely human rather than templated across vastly different career backgrounds and target roles.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: We built a complete three-phase career guidance experience, from role discovery to conversation coaching, in a single hackathon weekend.
What we learned: The biggest gap in career tools isn't resumes or interviews, it's the space between "I don't know what I want" and "I'm talking to the right person."
What's next for CareerCompass: Integrating with LinkedIn for real-time contact discovery and partnering with university career services offices to offer CareerCompass as a post-placement resource for students.
