About the Project

Inspiration

The idea for our AI Career Coach was born from a mix of personal frustration and a simple question:
“What if everyone could get advice from the world's greatest mentors, any time they needed it?”
After struggling to find tailored career support—especially during career transitions—I realized that most coaching was generic, outdated, or simply too expensive. We wanted to make world-class mentorship accessible and actionable for everyone.

What We Learned

• Everyone needs different support: Some crave tough love, others want empathy or a step-by-step plan.
• Most people struggle with clarity and confidence, not just skills.
• The “one-size-fits-all” approach doesn't work—context and personality matter.
• Users love interacting with familiar, inspiring voices (like Oprah or Steve Jobs), which makes the advice feel real.

How We Built It

• Started with deep research: interviews with users who felt stuck or lost in their careers.
• Mapped out hundreds of real-life coaching conversations.
• Used Gemini & GPT-4 to model unique coaching personalities (iconic, empathetic, practical, etc.).
• Prototyped an onboarding flow that matches each user to the right AI-mentor for their situation.
• Focused on micro-interactions: one step, one question, or one challenge at a time—no overwhelming plans.
• Designed for mobile first, so users could check in on the go.

Challenges We Faced

• Voice and tone: Making sure AI “felt” like a real mentor, not just a generic chatbot.
• Personalization: Balancing privacy, helpfulness, and adaptation without making things too complex.
• Depth vs. fun: Finding the right mix of practical advice, encouragement, and even tough questions.
• Legal and ethical issues: Especially around using famous personalities (we explored both licensed and archetype-based coaches).
