Inspiration Many job seekers struggle to get actionable feedback on their resumes or understand how to tailor them for modern, technical roles like Machine Learning and Data Science. Inspired by real-world career challenges, I wanted to build an autonomous AI agent that empowers users with instant, expert-level resume advice and guidance—without barriers or waiting for a human reviewer.
What it does The Career Advisor AI Agent allows users to upload their resume (PDF or TXT), generates AI-powered feedback, and supports custom conversations with an integrated chatbot interface. It delivers formatting help, skills targeting, and specific tips for improvement, acting as a mentor throughout the job search process.
How we built it Streamlit was used for the interactive frontend and resume file upload.
Cohere Command R API powers the autonomous feedback and chat.
PyPDF2 handles PDF text extraction for resume parsing.
Environment variables keep API keys secure.
Git and GitHub manage the codebase for easy collaboration and deployment.
Challenges we ran into Migrating to the latest Cohere chat models after older endpoints/models were deprecated.
Prompt engineering to ensure actionable and well-structured feedback.
File parsing and text extraction from diverse resume formats.
Ensuring the experience is user-friendly for non-technical participants.
What we learned How to harness agentic AI for real, user-facing tasks.
End-to-end project deployment: frontend, backend integration, and version control.
