Inspiration
Families need simple ways to coordinate everyday check-ins and stay connected. CareCue was created to make family check-ins easier to organize and track.
What it does
CareCue is a family care coordination web application. Users can create check-ins for family members, view existing check-ins, and mark them as completed.
How we built it
We built the frontend using React and Vite, with a Node.js and Express backend. AWS Lambda Web Functions and DynamoDB support the deployed application. We also built a self-hosted Model Context Protocol (MCP) server using Streamable HTTP, exposing tools to list, create, and complete check-ins.
Challenges we ran into
Connecting the frontend, backend, database, and remote MCP server required careful configuration and testing. Deploying the services to AWS also helped us understand cloud hosting and API integration.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We deployed a working CareCue web application, connected it to AWS services, and published the source code in a public GitHub repository with an MIT license.
What we learned
We gained practical experience with React, Node.js, AWS deployment, DynamoDB, and exposing application functionality through MCP.
What's next for CareCue
Future improvements include verifying an Alexa+ integration, adding scheduled reminders, and exploring AI-powered family check-in assistance.
