Medication adherence is a common real-world problem, especially for students, elderly individuals, and people managing multiple prescriptions. Many existing solutions feel cluttered or overwhelming. CareCue was inspired by the need for a clean, minimal, and easy-to-use app that reduces cognitive load while still being effective in reminding users to take their medication.

This project strengthened my understanding of Flutter state management, Firestore integration, and real-time UI updates. I also learned how to design for clarity and accessibility, and how small UX decisions can significantly impact usability. Additionally, I gained experience preparing a project for public submission and documentation.

CareCue was built using Flutter for a cross-platform user interface and Firebase Firestore for real-time data storage. Flutter enabled rapid UI development and consistent design across platforms, while Firebase handled medication data, daily reset functionality, and state synchronization. The app architecture follows a clean separation of screens and reusable widgets, with careful state handling for medication completion logic.

One of the main challenges was managing state consistency across daily resets and user interactions, such as toggling medication completion and undoing actions. Another challenge was maintaining a cohesive and calming UI color system across multiple screens while keeping accessibility in mind. Debugging real-time Firestore updates and navigation flow also required careful testing.

I’m proud of delivering a fully functional, polished application within the hackathon timeframe. CareCue supports real-world use cases like daily reset, progress tracking, and intuitive interaction. I’m especially proud of the clean UI, consistent color system, and the smooth user experience from onboarding to daily usage.

Future improvements include scheduled notifications, multiple daily reminders per medication, user authentication, cloud backups, and analytics-based insights into adherence patterns. CareCue could also be expanded to support caregivers and shared medication plans.
