Inspiration

Our project was first inspired by the challenges our elderly community faced when accessibility is not really available. However, as we delved deeper into understanding YNA, we uncovered an opportunity to create an ecosystem that simply just makes communication so much more accessible. We find our solutions by combining artificial intelligence with telecommunication services, to provide real-time solutions to their life problems, such as navigation to a specific destination.

What it does

CareConnect opens up a world of possibilities beyond your expectations. It transforms any internet-connected device with a microphone and speaker into a tool for making and receiving calls with your number. What's more, we've integrated an AI chatter that goes beyond the ordinary – assisting users in navigating to specific locations and performing a range of other tasks.

How we built it

We crafted CareConnect with a blend of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, harnessing the power of simplicity and accessibility. Leveraging the T-Mobile YNA (Your Number Anywhere) API, we seamlessly integrated an emergency calling functionality into our solution. This ensures that the emergency call service is available across a wide array of devices, making it practical and reliable for elderly users. We also utilized voice-to-text packages from Javascript and Python together to implement speech recognition and make further improvements with AI models.

Challenges we ran into

Throughout our journey, we encountered challenges in integrating various components, especially when merging front-end design and API interfaces. Balancing individual responsibilities while ensuring a cohesive final product was a learning curve for our team.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully enhanced the original T-Mobile API library, introducing a new function to handle inbound calls from others. This accomplishment not only extended the platform's capabilities but also improved user interaction and accessibility. Beyond this, we also incorporate various other APIs to fulfill core functionalities including speech recognition, and navigation.

What we learned

Our experience taught us valuable lessons in teamwork, collaborative development, and the importance of user-centric design. We gained insights into the complexities of creating accessible solutions for diverse user needs.

What's next for CareConnect

Looking ahead, our technical roadmap includes embedding our system into multiple devices, ensuring full web accessibility, and enhancing the experience for users with vision impairments. Additionally, we plan to iterate our prototype, conduct thorough user testing, and revisit the empathetic research phase to refine our solution further. Our commitment remains unwavering—to create a truly inclusive communication ecosystem for the elderly community.
