Inspiration
Embarking on their academic journey at Stony Brook University, Allison Pascual, Chu En Chen, Fanny Pan, and Kiko Zhou delved into the world of Biology, Health Science, and Psychology. They achieved their Nursing Assistant certification in the summer of 2023 and subsequently joined the ranks of the Long Island State Veterans Home as CNAs. At the Veterans Home, they not only honed their clinical skills but also unveiled the intricacies of the healthcare system. Through this immersive experience, Allison, Chu En, Fanny, and Kiko gained profound insights into the flaws and gaps within the system, sparking a collective passion to contribute to positive change. Their journey transcended beyond the confines of textbooks, as they became catalysts for improvement in the ever-evolving landscape of healthcare.
In a harmonious blend of expertise, they joined forces with computer science students, Maggie Lin, Kelly Chen, Zhenting Ling, and Kaitlyn Chau. Driven by a shared ambition, they collaborated seamlessly. Together, they birthed an interdisciplinary powerhouse, a dynamic organization with a resolute mission – to unravel the intricate challenges in geriatric healthcare through the lens of cutting-edge technology solutions.
What it does
We built an webapp to notify family members about the personal daily activities of loved ones to bring peace of mind. This includes:
- When meals are served
- When medication is given
- When showers are given
Linking family members to the nursing home recreational schedule which includes:
- Recreational events
- Holidays
## How we built it
We used Vite, React, and Tailwind CSS to build the website.
## Challenges we ran into All of us are beginners for web development, so we have to learn while doing the project. Because we are beginners, we had roadblocks in building the website. Here are a couple setbacks that we had: - Rendering issues with React on one of our teammate's device
- CSS styling issue with different screen sizes
- Using React Router for multiple-page website
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are able to majorly fix the CSS styling issue across the different laptop screen sizes between our team members. We also figured out how to use React Router to route our pages.
Most importantly, the biggest accomplishment is that we get to learn new technologies with this project.
What we learned
- Prioritizing features that can be completed under a tight deadline
What's next for CareConnect
- We are looking to add more features in CareConnect such as integrating MongoDB to support our user and patient profile storage and sending notifications to the family members.
