Inspiration

We realize that innovation comes not only in the form of creating something new, but can also be in the form of making existing resources more accessible to all. When I was sick as a child, I thought not of my health as the main priority but of the price tag that comes along with improving my health. Realizing that the healthcare industry has strayed towards being more about the profit margins as opposed to the health of customers, we decided to create CareCompare to find the most affordable options to medication.

What it does

CareCompare is a website that has three main functions:

  1. Users are able to see the current market price of medication & drugs at their cheapest option, through the CostPlus Drug API. This allows users to easily have a list of their much needed medication all in the tap of a keystroke.
  2. Users can use the drug & medication comparison tab, which allows quick comparisons of the market prices between two drugs.
  3. Users can answer a built-in screening questionnaire that allows them to quickly and easily find diagnostics for the symptoms they may be experiencing. Although this should not be used as a substitute for an official medical diagnostics, it is a good way for users to quickly see a few short-term solutions that can sustain them prior to hospital/clinic visits.

How we built it

We built CareCompare using React.js, Javascript, CSS, and the CostPlus Drug API.

Challenges we ran into

Initially, it was hard finding a Market Price Drug API that we could implement to our program.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we were able to complete our first hackathon with a finished website that can be used in our daily lives, helping our loved ones and neighbors find the most affordable life-saving drugs.

What we learned

We learned that teamwork is very important because it adds diverse ideas to the table and work rate rises.

What's next for CareCompare

We hope to use artificial intelligence to provide more accurate results to the built-in screening questionnaire.
