Inspiration I take multiple medicines daily and frequently forget doses despite my best intentions. My wife, as my caregiver, constantly worries when I'm not with her - did I take my morning pills? What about the afternoon dose? We tried expensive apps, complex pill organizers, and phone alarms, but nothing connected us both in real-time. Then I thought about my parents, elderly neighbors, and the millions dealing with dementia, vision problems, or motor impairments. They need something dead simple - not another app asking for passwords, subscriptions, or 20-step setups. Just a basic connection between patient and caregiver that actually works. What it does CareCircle creates an instant bridge between patients and caregivers with just a 4-digit code. Patients see big, clear medicine cards and tap "Taken" when done. Caregivers see the same screen in real-time on their phone. If a medicine isn't taken within 15 minutes of its scheduled time, the caregiver gets an urgent notification to call and check in. No accounts, no ads, no data collection - just pure functionality. How we built it Single HTML file with vanilla JavaScript for maximum compatibility. We used Supabase's free tier for optional real-time sync (though the app works offline too). Built as a Progressive Web App so users can install it like a native app. Every design decision prioritized accessibility: huge touch targets, high contrast colors, simple navigation, and clear visual feedback. Challenges we ran into Making it truly "zero barrier" was harder than expected. Most solutions require email verification, app store downloads, or technical knowledge. We stripped everything unnecessary - no user accounts, no databases of personal information, no premium features. The challenge was making something so simple it feels like it's missing features, when actually that's the entire point. Accomplishments that we're proud of
Works on a $20 smartphone from 2015 or the latest iPhone Setup takes under 30 seconds for an 85-year-old Real-time sync without creating user accounts Completely functional offline 100% free with no hidden costs ever
What we learned Accessibility isn't about adding features - it's about removing barriers. Every extra step, every small button, every required field is a wall between someone and their health. We learned that the best assistive technology is invisible technology. What's next for CareCircle Complete freedom. The code is open source - anyone can use it, modify it, host it themselves, or build on top of it. No licenses, no restrictions, no "premium" version coming later. Families can deploy their own copy for free on Netlify or any static host. Healthcare facilities can run it on their servers. This isn't a startup - it's a gift to anyone who needs it. Because remembering medicine shouldn't require a credit card.
